BUILDING REVIEW

The Benton Park Neighborhood Association (BPNA) wishes to thank you for making your home or locating your business in the Benton Park Neighborhood

The first step in your process to renovate, build or expand your business will be to City of Saint Louis Building Division or The Business Assistance Center - City of St. Louis. In certain instances the St. Louis City will request letter of support from the local neighborhood. The BPNA Building Review Committee will assist in reviewing your architectural plans or zoning requests on behalf of the BPNA and can supply letter of support.

In 1985 the United States Department of the Interior designated Benton Park Neighborhood as a National Historic District. This distinction in part enables property owners/ developers to qualify for Federal Historic Tax and/or State of Missouri Historic Tax Credits. The success and popularity of these programs requires extensive planning, review and record keeping.

In 2006 the City of Saint Louis established Benton Park Neighborhood as a City Historic District. The Benton Park Historic District Ordinance addresses alterations to historic buildings, new construction and restricts demolition within the district. The City of Saint Louis Building Division accepts applications for building permits and enforces the building codes. Some renovation plans and all new construction is referred to the City of St Louis Preservation Board for a public hearing. When this level of review is deemed necesary the BPNA Building Review Committee will assist in reviewing your plans and providing letter of support. The Preservation Board meets on the fourth Monday of month; please refer to calendar page for submission dates.
